Market briefing · 10 September 2026
The latest plate is not 580 W PERC. The latest battery is not four tubulars.
Pakistan imported a boom, NEPRA killed 1:1 net-metering, and the shop floor moved to N-type 620–650 W and LFP wall packs. This page is what we tell a serious buyer before a quote.
The country
What is going on
Rooftop boom
Official briefing: ~190 MW in FY2020 to ~6,978 MW by FY2026. Tariff up ~140%, panel import prices down ~60%, rupee weak — that is the boom, not a subsidy.
Net-billing
SRO 251(I)/2026. New files export at NAEPP (posted ~Rs 8.13; street talk Rs 10–13). You still buy at Rs 37–55. Oversizing for export is a bad trade. Self-consume + battery wins.
Shorter contracts
New prosumer agreements 5 years, not 7. Size capped at sanctioned load (up to 1 MW). Pre–9 Feb 2026 net-metering contracts stay grandfathered until they expire (SRO 547).
Street plates
A-grade documented N-type is roughly Rs 38–46 / watt on 10 Sep 2026 lists. Karachi usually cheapest; Islamabad / Peshawar a few rupees dearer. 540 W leftover PERC is cheaper per plate and worse per decade.
Plates · what is latest
Buy the 2026 cell. Do not buy last year’s leftover.
LONGi Hi-MO X10 · HPBC 2.0
640–650 W (some lots 620 / 670). Back-contact N-type, anti-dust / anti-shade marketing, bifacial double-glass. Street lists ~Rs 41–47/W, ~Rs 26–30k per 645 W plate. This is the “new Longi” people mean in 2026 — not Hi-MO 5. Hi-MO 5 / 6 lots are discontinued on several lists.
Jinko Tiger Neo 3.0
630–650 W N-type bifacial dual-glass, 20BB / SMBB. 585–590 W Tiger Neo is still the volume SKU. 705–725 W lots exist for C&I. Lists ~Rs 40–44/W.
AIKO ABC · HJT 620–740 W
AIKO HPBC 3.0 / ABC ~640 W (~Rs 43/W). Canadian 620–625 W HJT and Risen / Huasun 700–740 W HJT at specialist importers. Slightly better heat coefficient. Pay only if the roof is tight or the project is commercial.
| Generation | Typical 2026 SKU | Cell | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leftover | 500–560 W Longi Hi-MO 5 / P-type PERC | PERC | Skip for new hybrid. Higher heat loss, faster fade. Lists still show it cheap (~Rs 26–29/W) because nobody wants it. |
| Volume 2025 leftover | 575–590 W Hi-MO X7, Tiger Neo, JA DeepBlue | N-type TOPCon | Still fine. Workhorse residential. Same cell family, fewer watts per frame. |
| Current 2026 | 610–650 W X10 / Tiger Neo 3.0 / AIKO ABC / 20BB TOPCon | HPBC / TOPCon / ABC | Default spec if roof and iron can take it. |
| Flagship | 700–740 W HJT / 24BB C&I | HJT / TOPCon | Fewer plates, heavier iron, check rail rating. |
Street PKR/W disagrees between Hall Road, Saddar and “documented A-grade” WhatsApp lists. We quote bands, then confirm the lot flash report.
Street PKR / watt · 10 Sep 2026
City bands, not invoices.
A-grade documented N-type. B-grade and undocumented sit Rs 4–10/W cheaper and are a different product. Karachi is the import hub — usually the floor.
| City | A-grade documented Rs/W | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Karachi | 37–43 | Port, most SKUs in stock |
| Lahore / Multan / Faisalabad | 38–44 | Volume residential |
| Islamabad / Rawalpindi | 39–46 | Freight + thinner stock |
| Peshawar / Quetta | 40–45 | Confirm lot, not just brand sticker |
Documented A-grade
Traceable pallet, flash report, serials that match the brand portal. This is what a 12/30 warranty actually attaches to.
B-grade / mix
Cosmetic or electrical seconds. Fine for a farm shed you own. Not for a house you will sell in five years.
Undocumented “Longi”
Relabelled cells, fake barcodes, no factory paper. The cheap Rs 27/W 540 W plate is usually this. We will not install it.
Batteries · what is latest
LFP is the 2026 default. Tubular is a budget UPS, not a hybrid bank.
What shops are actually selling
Low-voltage 51.2 V LFP 5.12 kWh wall / rack packs. Mid-range 5 kWh street band Rs 2.05–2.75 lakh on 10 Sep 2026 lists. Premium closed-loop (Pylontech UP5000, Inverex Powerwall) sits Rs 3.5–5.4 lakh. Usable energy ~4.5–4.8 kWh at 90% DoD.
Why tubular lost the math
Four Phoenix/Osaka 200 Ah at 50% DoD ≈ 4.8 kWh usable — about the same as one 5 kWh LFP — for similar money (~Rs 2.0–2.3 lakh). LFP lasts a decade of daily cycling; tubular in a hybrid is often 2–4 years in Pakistani heat. Water topping and hydrogen do not belong in a finished house.
| Class | Example (Sep 2026 street) | Usable | When we spec it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget LFP | Knox Powerwall 4.15 ~Rs 1.5 lakh; Knox LIO 5.12 ~Rs 2.15–2.40 lakh | ~3.7–4.6 kWh | First hybrid, lights/fans/fridge |
| Residential default | Dyness DL5.0C ~Rs 2.49–2.65 lakh; Narada / Exide Atlantic ~Rs 2.23–2.40 lakh | ~4.6–4.8 kWh | Any new hybrid 5–10 kW |
| Premium closed-loop | BYD LV5 ~Rs 2.70 lakh; Pylontech US/UP5000 ~Rs 3.05–4.30 lakh; Inverex Powerwall ~Rs 4.50–5.45 lakh | ~4.5–5 kWh | CAN-matched inverter, 10-yr paper |
| Stack | 2–3 × 5 kWh in parallel, or Knox/Dyness 10 kWh | 9–15 kWh | Night AC, long shed |
| Budget leftover | Osaka / Phoenix / AGS 200 Ah × 4 at 48 V ~Rs 2.08–2.32 lakh | ~4.8 kWh | Fans+lights only, 2–3 year horizon |
China cut the battery export VAT rebate (9% → 6% in 2026, heading to zero). LFP is more likely to get dearer than cheaper in the next year. If the bank is happening, 2026 is not the year to wait.
Policy · SRO 251 & 547
Net-billing is not net-metering with a new name.
How you get paid
Imports billed at your slab (often Rs 37–55). Exports bought at NAEPP. NEPRA posted ~Rs 8.13/kWh for 2026; commentary and DISCO practice still quote a Rs 10–13 working band. Our calculator uses Rs 11 as a mid working figure — confirm the month you file.
Who is grandfathered
Agreements executed before 9 Feb 2026 keep old 1:1 terms until they expire (SRO 547, 3 Apr 2026). Pending files that had paid demand notices / licenses before that date were later directed to be processed under the old frame. New files are net-billing.
Paperwork got shorter
Aug 2026: NEPRA dropped a separate regulator license for prosumers ≤25 kW — DISCOs approve directly. Capacity still capped at sanctioned load, max 1 MW. New contracts 5 years. You must own the roof you file on.
Design consequence: size PV to daytime load, not to dump on the grid at Rs 11. Hybrid + LFP is the house product. Pure on-grid is for a factory that already has a generator.
Inverters · iron · wire
The rest of the stack moved too.
Hybrid IP65 is the house box
Inverex Nitrox, Knox Care/Krypton, SolarMax, Fronus, Ziewnic, Growatt SPH, Deye. Pure on-grid (Huawei SUN2000) is for factories that already have a generator — it dies in load-shedding. After net-billing, “export-only” on-grid is a worse product for homes.
Iron must match 640–650 W
New plates are heavier and longer. 16 SWG “Rs 500/panel” stands were already weak under 580 W. L2 GI 14 SWG HDG (Comfort / Alpha / ZAKSUN kits) is the floor. Coastal: aluminium rails.
XLPO or do not install
EN 50618 / IEC 62930 tinned Cu. FAST / Pakistan Cables 6 mm² still the 5–6 kW DC sweet spot. PVC “solar” jackets are a two-summer product.
Who it is for
The same 645 W plate is not the same system.
Home
6 kW hybrid, 10 plates, LFP, split DB. Size to daytime load after net-billing.
Industry
3-phase 15–100 kW+. On-grid if a genset exists. Battery for cold rooms and night lines.
One AC
Day = 5–6 plates. Night shed = two 5 kWh LFP. Not a 12 V kit.
Fans
Four fans ≈ 300 W. Two plates by day, small LFP at night. Not a 6 kW package.
How to buy in this market
Zarkaar spec, September 2026
Do
N-type 610–650 W documented lot. Hybrid + at least 5 kWh LFP if you live with shed. Size PV to daytime load, not to dump on the grid at Rs 11. 14 SWG iron. XLPO. Split the DB: backup vs non-backup. Ask for flash report and serials before money moves.
Do not
PERC 540 W “deal”. Four tubulars sold as a 10 kW hybrid. On-grid-only on a 6-hour feeder. Oversizing for old 1:1 net-metering. Mixing MC4 brands. Green-meter prices from a shop SKU — DISCO demand notice is official. Unsigned “Longi” cartons with no barcode.
